This is a discussion about 更かす

更す

Can this reading also be used for the Kanji's meaning "renew" ?

The only variant I've ever seen is with the okurigana being 更かす and the meaning basically just like in the existing entry (stay up very late). Feel free to quote the source / give some additional context if you want better answers. Just because the Kanji entry has a certain meaning attributed to the character actually does not have to do much with the meaning of the words and especially the verbs that the Kanji is being used to write. Characters on their own don't really have an "official" meaning, these are always just attempts at defining them somehow fittingly.
