See "Word Priority Marking" section https://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/JMdict-EDICT_Dictionary_Project You can suggest changes at JMdict. However this is really just 風呂 (which is marked as common) with a prefix so maybe shouldn't get an entry in the first place.
Hello,
Thank you very much for the link,
I understand 風呂 is marked as common, but after discussing with several native japanese speakers they all agree お風呂 is more common in most occasion. Although they have the same meaning, so do ご主人 and 主人, both marked as common words.
It would be nicer, but it's not strictly necessary, to keep the consistency going. Thanks for the fast reply.
JMdict is a dictionary, not a selection of common phrases. Yes the conglomerate form is more common than just 風呂 on its own and I did not state otherwise. But in general, a dictionary does not include all possible combinations of words. For example ルクセンブルク人 is not included, but it doesn't have to be, as the country name itself and the suffix are both listed.
That being said, ultimately it is up to Jim Breen which entries to include and exclude in JMdict and you can learn more about his reasoning and criteria for that in the link I gave above: https://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/JMdict-EDICT_Dictionary_Project This is also where you can suggest changes as I said. For this specific word you would go to https://www.edrdg.org/jmwsgi/edform.py?svc=jmdict&sid=&q=2220600&a=2 and change the entry to your liking. Then Jim will review it and decide whether to include the changes in the dictionary file.
Jisho.org regularly retrieves the newest version of the JMdict file, so you don't have to take any action in regards to Jisho.org in particular. Instead go to the source and make/suggest changes there. Jisho.org is just a website to retrieve and display data from different sources in one nice frontend, it does not produce any of the data by itself. (One very small exception being this file with additional notes that are sometimes displayed depending on the search input: https://github.com/Jisho-org/jisho-notes -- if you ever want to make changes there send a pull request on GitHub)
Hello,
Thanks for the reply and the information, I'll give it a shot but it doesn't really matter if it stays how it is now or it gets marked as common.
お風呂 is not marked as a common word
Title,
Should definetely be a common word, one of the most common words in japanese media.
