https://jotoba.com has this feature btw and uses the same dataset for words as jisho

Personally I don't like websites that bind single characters to actions, and I wasn't aware that / focuses the search field in Google/DuckDuckGo (from a quick test). But I do like this idea. I will implement in the next version of Jisho.

In the meantime, the search box is the first tab target on the page, so cmd-l (or equivalent in your browser to focus the URL bar, and then pressing tab, will focus the search bar.
